Animal Wednesday - Sea Animals

I've got a large moleskine drawing book and have been drawing sea animals with soft graphic pencil - mostly copied from photographs from National Geographic Magazine.  The images don't come out very well, due to the moleskine yellow background and the light pencil drawings so in some of them I played around with photoshop to enhance.

Beluga Whales

Bottlenose Dolphins

Minke Whale - enhanced drawing of course

Dugong - from the Indo pacific area

Bottle nosed Dolphin again

Dugong again with a page of his friends the Red Hind (top) and giant grouper aka potato cod

West Indian Manatee and baby

Sockeye salmon - feeding - under water (altho to me they look like the fish that ate the house)

Sea Otter

Hammerhead and Grey Reef Sharks

Hawksbill Turtle on a photoshoped background
I loved drawing all these sea creatures but have a particular fondness for the Manatee and Baby and the Dugong.  And of course, the Beluga Whales.

Happy Animal Wednesday!

  1. I just love those sea turtles. All of your sketches are good. National Geo is a real inspiration for a lot of things.

  3. Terrific job Mim! Love them all. The softness is pleasant to see, as if I feel them swimming under water. HAW!

  6. These are great sketches Mim. Pencil never works very well when scanning. Makes me nuts when I try it.
