I say Jersey shore because of the note on the back of the card " The run down here was simply great. The roads splendid. Enjoying it immensely. Love Tillie" And the card was sent to East 18th street in Brooklyn.
Well, knowing the geography well - you probably wouldn't write about driving to Coney Island - which is why I think that one of Eugenie's friends got adventurous and drove to NEW JERSEY - on those splendid roads and stayed for a time on the Jersey Shore.
Of course after all this conjecture on my part, and looking for clues...I finally noticed the postmark from...
Atlantic City, New Jersey.
I'm such a good sleuth~

This is a current picture of the night life on the Pier at Atlantic City - looks a bit more lively than the postcard.

This is the Flatiron Building now - in Madison Square. No sleepy town square anymore.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday all.
Boardwalk in the winter and my blue, Sears, three-speed...ah...I could go on and on. Loved living at the shore. It was a good year.
ReplyDeletelove seeing your postcards too Mim...
What a wonderful postcard time machine! I loved being transported to Jersey shore adventures of 1909! Happy PFF!
ReplyDeleteEven the address to the receipiants is interesting to me on these post cards. Now days there are so many people and places in the city you have to practically draw a map to have a postcard delivered. Have a great weekend Mim.
ReplyDeletefun to see the then and now. yes, postmarks give good clues though sometimes they are blurred or faded. wish i had my post card collection handy. i'd share mine too.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm getting homesick! Thanks for the pics of the city.
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! Beautiful postcards. Love your banner and blog.
ReplyDeleteDebby
I really enjoy these postcard journeys Mim! I long for yesteryear, personally. I love the one cent stamp! I just bought postcard stamps for the road trip and the postage is 28 cents now. 74 cents for abroad...no pun intended!
ReplyDeleteSuch fun this is and I love your sleuthing! No awnings on the modern buildings either... ;~)
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday, enjoy your weekend.
Putting your cards in mail today!
Your mail arrived safely, thanks.

I so enjoy these postcards, so interesting. I sort of long for the 'yesteryears' too.
ReplyDeletemim, i like the handwriting and messages best of all. it seems everybody used fountain pens then. probably then there WEREN'T ball point pens?!
ReplyDeletethis is a wonderful series. but mim, where is ms. em? is she having fun?
:)
It's fun looking for clues and findin more information about the sites and senders, isn't it? Very timely - the postmark is 100 years old this month.
ReplyDeletethe front of the first card says Steeple Chase and Steel Pier both of which were in Atlantic City
ReplyDeleteAnd actually Madison Square (Park) is to the left of the Flatiron Bldg. Its still there ...
Oh.. and they dont call that area Madison Sq. Its called .. The Flatiron District!
ReplyDeleteLove your postcards today.
ReplyDeleteThe information you shared of the old and new was fantastic.
Happy PFF.
love the cards and the sentiments...and wondering about the people, too
ReplyDeleteThanks all - this is fun...
ReplyDeleteKJ - she's around...just wait
Love the post card. The mention of the Boardwalk kind of made me think NJ. Good job you could read the postmark. Loved the message. It conjured up visions of carefree days of old, Or from an old movie. My favorite so far.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these. I'll take a look-see for a card of the of the Flat Iron Bldg, and if you should have any cards of Brookhaven, Mississippi (or environs) or Eugene, Oregon, I would love to trade.
