Mom has been here since Monday, and we've had a relaxing time. She's very low maintenance, easy to feed and keep. Brother and family are coming today - sometime. I still have beds to make, and things to do but it'll all get done.
But last night I got a little weepy about when they all leave next week. Most of them haven't even gotten here, and I'm weepy about them leaving. Silly I know, but real sadness.
If I could change one thing it would be to have family closer so that we could visit and it wouldn't just have to be a VISIT. Dinner would be nice. Spending the day would be nice. Years ago my two sister-in-laws lived here (one was a sort of adopted sister of DH) but both moved away and then they both died. (!!!) Cousins are in NYC area, but that is a VISIT. Brother is in CA, sister in Italy, niece in AZ, Mom in FL - we are a crazy alphabet family.
I'll enjoy what I have, trust me - and will have a great time over the next week. I just wish....

Dear Mim,
I hear you...I have grandkids in Oregon I barely know...visits are few and far between...and other relatives all over the map too. And a very busy daughter close by who has such a busy life I'll be seeing my grandkids there for the first time in twelve weeks next Friday! Can you imagine!!! 12 weeks! Crazy!!!
So I hear you, and know that pre visit weeping...
Now go make the beds and know you are going to have a wonderful wonderful time with them when they arrive, enjoy mom now, and soak it all in.
If you get a tiny minute after you make the beds could you tell me which weekend in October...??? ;-)
sigh, and boy do i know what you mean, when my bro cancelled his trip from sa last week, i was so miserable...he is all i have left out there, in the whole world...so make new memories -lots of them to hold tight to your bosom when they are gone (love that word bosom- such an old fashioned).
Mim I hear you. My family has never been close, yet I would like to be near my son, which I am now but wont really be when I move. If I move. I think this is the way with so many families nowadays. I hope you have a grand time with your brother and continuing w/your mom. the weather at any rate is glorious. that makes things easier.
Hey Mim....I have been MIA and have read back a few posts. I think it is awesome that all your family is coming in AND that your mom is low maintenamce!!! Sorry that you can already feel sad about their impending departure but DON'T think ahead! Soak in each and every moment and block out the sadness so you may reap every drop of happiness! I am fortunate that the majority of my family lives near except for one of my brothers lives in Louisiana and I do miss seeing them. Since my parents are both gone we see him much less naturally. You would be surprised how little the relatives nearby can manage to get together...everyone always so busy!
I love the postcard and am a fan of diners too. There is an original from the 50's in a nearby little town that is sooo neat.
Enjoyed catching up on some of your posts. Hoping you have a blessed week, enjoy making new memories!!! :)
Oh yes who I would love to have all my loved ones closer.....
It is kind of having a homesick feeling all the time.......
I think I know what you are feeling.....
Well enjoy their visit Mim! And make every moment count!
OH Mim, I know just how you feel. My family all lives away from me too. It is so fun to have them visit and so sad to see them leave. The house and heart feels so empty when they are gone.
Mim I am sorry to hear about the people you love who have died.
I am happy that you will get to spend wonderful days with your family.
Love Renee xoxo
I hope you have a lovely visit and a wonderful time.
one of the reasons I moved back was to be closer to family. I don't want to be next door to them, but close enough to know we could see each other more.
My oldest sister is having a hard time with the idea of me living here now. She feels I'll take her girls and grandchildren away. (not literally, she's jealous.)That's sad to me. So what I'll do is just show my sister I love her as much as the rest of them ;)
Enjoy the week Mim. I think it's nice that you love them so much.
Yes. Fortunately we have friends; and our computers! [Blimmin scanner on the blink though.]
I understand. My family is all still here in AK but my kids have both moved away - very far, one on the East Coast and one in Japan. I try to cherish each moment when they are here but it's never enough time.
I understand completely.
I really agree - I have family here too, but in a couple of weeks we'll be all over the place again - it'sso hard...
I know how you feel. We are far away from what little family we have left and see them very little too. So enjoy the time with them and dont think about them leaving till they are gone. Cant waste one minute of time with them. :)
Having the same mix of emotions over my son getting his first job - it is in Baltimore. Now both big kids are down south. Sigh. I'm just pretending that he's going back to school...
