Animal Wednesday - A few moments in the life of a Frog

Frog story in pictures

 Beautiful Calm lake

Woodland stream feeding lovely lake

Human checking on animal life at stream edge.

Green frog calmly waiting for dinner, but sees human coming at him (or her) and thinks that he (or she) will BE dinner.

A flash of movement - too quick for the camera to catch.

 A safer place

 The End.

I call this painting "Heathrow" after spending hours at the international terminal last week.  The variety of people you see at that airport astounds me - every culture, every color, masses and masses of people.  I simply HAD to paint them.

This painting started out to be a representation of immigrants, refugees...but it took a turn towards the industrial.  Hence the "Heathrow" title.

I may change the background horizon but will try it in photoshop first, so as not to be surprised.

Let me know what you think - and I'm glad it's off my chest now!!!

Off again

I am off to England for the first time in about 5 years.  I had a stretch at work where I went once a month, but that dwindled off sadly (how could you not love traveling to England every month!).  On my very last trip there, I met our friend Joss for the first time in person - what a wonderful treat.  I left a day early on that trip, and she and her husband and Snuffles came over to my hotel for a quick visit.  I was leaving early cause my dad wasn't doing too well, and I wanted to get home to help out.

Fast forward 5 years or so.  I'm going to have dinner with Joss on Thursday night and I (crossed fingers) expect no trouble at home.  I'll get to see her lovely studio and have a good old chat fest.

Have a lovely week. I'll post pics.

More Doodling, painting, playing around

For a change it's lovely to not have a "project" to work on - I'm enjoying playing with paints and pens and different papers.

I wanted to get over my fear of hot pressed watercolor paper so have been experimenting using a mica based, powdered paint that you mix up to the strength you want. The colors are not subtle, and they sort of sparkle but it's fun and they are smooth and fun to push around on the smooth paper.

Color studies 1,2 and 3

I took the fish from a few posts ago, and finished him off with watercolors.  I like him.....

3 friends are new or again grandma's which made me think of mamma's and babies - hence the mother and child.  And the starfish just popped out for fun.

 What do you think?

I think that art should be fun,
and it's been fun
rediscovering that.

Last day of a little Stay-cation

My husband wasn't feeling too well last week - tummy bug - so we had no plans for the weekend...and it worked out wonderfully.  I caught up on sleep, and reading, and some gardening.  It was way too hot to do much outside - yesterday we went out and drove to the top of a local "mountain" to get some fresh air - hoping for a breeze.  Not much up there but great views and hot air that was moving about a bit.

Can't you just see the waves of heat? We talked a lot about how to paint a scene like this - DH sees things that I do not, but it was good.

Today you could feel the heat breaking, but it was still a scorcher - so guess what we did - yes, some local kayaking.  We're lucky enough to have this river just 5 minutes away - it's not where we usually go, but it's still a lovely ride.

The fish were literally jumping out of the water today - maybe it was even too hot for them.  But for me it was gorgeous, and as usual, relaxing, peaceful and quiet. Redwings singing, dragonflies hovering.  Perfect.

I hope you all had a wonderful peaceful happy weekend.

More Doodling

I'm taking a hint from Teri C and others - not to worry about what to draw...but just to do it.  I have a pad of hot pressed watercolor paper that I want to use up - and I'm starting to get used to the oddness of the surface.  These are a few of the latest.

Odd but fun

The last one is a section of my garden, where I hung solar lanterns.  They are SO cute, glowing lightly during the night - like little suns - not enough to read by but fun anyways.

Happy 4th to everyone!!
