Animal Wednesday - Fish Face

I get involved in one medium and right now (as you all know) I've been playing with paperclay. Last night I started an ambitious project - a walking fish model. Here it is - just the beginning of the fish face...altho to me it looks like a lizard face at this point. I know that fish don't have eyelids, but I like to make eyelids so this guy will have them.

Details to be added will make this fishier - and I have to work out the details of the legs...hmmmm - should they fold backwards like a birds, or forward like us humans. I'm leaning towards frontwards...cause it might be easier to balance him. This guy will take a while to finish, so I'm keeping him wrapped in plastic in hopes that the clay will stay soft enough to work with without having to add water.

Happy Animal Wednesday - hope you have real animals in your life and not just clay one.

Oh yeah...one more thing! Last night driving home there was a lovely yellow lab in the road, an older fellow with a grizzled snout. Of course I stopped, as he was just standing there. He was SO friendly and lovely, wriggled up to me to say hello and looked like he would easily go into my car. And he SMELLED so bad! I was hesitant, it's a residential neighborhood, and while he didn't have tags, he had a collar - so somebody cared for him. Luckily a younger couple were driving down the street, they stopped and recognized the dog as belonging to someone nearby, and took him home. My hands reeked of dog, but that's no biggie. Usually I have a leash in the car, but I must have lost it somewhere which is why I was holding him with my hands. I was so glad he was rescued, as it was getting dark and I would have had to put him in my car and call the dog officer (isn't that a great title to have?) - and he was such a lovely, happy dog.
All's well that ends well.

Happy Animal Wednesday!

Your fish has great personality already with those eyelids. Can't wait to see it strolling across your blog. HAW.

I picture your fish having lizzard legs with a fish tail. Wonder why?
Looking forward to seeing what you do with him.
As for the dog, I'm glad he was rescued. I know the guilt would have bugged you till you took him home. Dog People Rule!

lookatthatfisheeeee!!!!!!!

I picture bird legs, but meaty ones :) Mim, you are on a roll girlfriend!

I adore labs. I can just picture that ol' wiggly butt! I do hate a smelly doggy stink though. That's from leaving them out so much. The coat gets oily and holds the smell. Yay for the happy ending!

Well, sorry but I thought he was a frog!
But I am sure when you are done with him/her he/she will be all fishy!

Sweet dog story, you are so kind! Glad that couple showed up to rescue him and get him to his rightful owner and hopefully THEY will tag him and give him a bath!

Oh I love it.. you're branching out to fish now. This will be cute when done. You really took to this new medium. Glad the dog story had a happy ending. Hope he is in a loving home and not just stuck in a yard alone.

You know, Mr. Fishylizard actually has some froggie traits too!

He does need some lizard-legs! He looks like a Wonderland "resident"!

Great job - Mim! Your passion for this new form is showing!

Hmmm, I thought you were building an iguana when I first looked at him, but I definitely see fishie potential! (Don't you just love these kind of comments?!! LOL!)

Thanks for commenting on the blog the other day...not sure I would waste the trip to go to Davis Islands unless I was doing something else in the area (aquarium) as it wasn't all that exciting!

Love KJ's comments, btw! She's spot on!

i love the sculpture - he looks very fishy to me (and that's meant as a compliment!)

I'm so happy you stopped and talked with that grizzled old gentleman! So glad he found his home...those labs can smell like the inside of a vacuum cleaner sometimes!

I love your fish! You're on a roll, Mim!!

I'm so glad you stopped. I always worry that if one of my pets were lost people might be mean to them or uncaring. Good to know there are people who will stop and check them out. Nice fish! I'm curious to see how it will turn out.
