Better to give than receive?

A good, dear friend's mom is turning 80 next week and I wanted to make her something for her birthday. We came up with a mirror which I was going to decoupage with scenes from their summer lakehouse.

I started out that way, but it just didn't work! So I started painting on the black background, and this mirror frame emerged. I'm not sure if her mom would like it and I'm kind of hoping NOT - because DH loves it. So I have another old mirror that I am going to try to decoupage and make into the item that we originally wanted.

I feel a tiny bit guilty but not too bad. Each would get their present, and if DH likes something that I make I want to keep it.

What do you think? Should I let DH have it if the mom would like it?

If the mom hasn't seen it yet, it's DH's he said first dibs.

And do you really think an 80 yr old wants to look in the mirror? LOL
Not sure I will at that age...it's starting to be a questionable occupation NOW! Maybe a nice collage with those summer pictures instead? Just my humble opinion.

Hmmm, I like the idea of a framed collage of lakehouse pics. I think DH should have the mirror and you should be tickled that he wants it to be something he wants to see a lot of :)
I love it! The first thing I thought of is how wonderful it would look in my new bathroom in RI. Apparantly the tiles are black and white. The landlady asked what color I thought would go nice with B&W and I said a nice, very soft turquoise. She disagreed and left it white! Anyway, I'm going with turquoise accents. Your mirror is proof that those colors are wonderful together!

I think DH should have the mirror if the lady hasn't seen it. She won't mind waiting for a replacement either I bet.

Make this another one for the DH.
It wasnt the one you were making anyway so no harm no foul. :))

Well. if the mom doesn't know about the first one, then what's the problem? Just make a new one and no one is the wiser, unless she reads this!
This one is very pretty.

Oh, what she doesn't know, won't matter as long as she gets the mirror you give her! I think it is great dh likes it and wants it!

dh for sure. the mom doesn't have to ever see it, thus she'll never say she wanted it and you'll never feel guilty.

right?

DH is getting this one - and another one is in process for the birthday girl.
No guilt - great feeling.

how would the mom know? How often is DH drawn to one of yr works? Love it myself.

Weighing in late-but I think that one belongs to DH and the new one will be perfect for the birthday lady. Things have a way of finding their way to their rightful owners, I truly believe that.

Can you make another one that is similar for the Mom?

Definitely DH.

It is gorgeous by the way. Also you look pretty gorgeous yourself in the background.
