Animal wednesday - two turtles and a fish

I haven't had time to post much, getting back into work has been crazy as you all know - and all else flies out the door except working, eating and sleeping.

But we did get a chance to kayak this weekend on a very swollen river - about 4 feet above normal. I got these turtle pictures
They seemed a bit dazed at how high the water was, I say that because there were so many swimming underwater that they kept bumping my kayak. I was sorry that I didn't have my camera when we saw the huge snapper laying her eggs. I gave her wide berth, and she was awfully dusty and dirty but really a sight to behold.

In stead of just taking pictures of animals, I want to continue to draw them. but alas, no time this week for hand drawn turtles. So I submit Mr. Fish head instead, obviously a work in process and a funny colored picture.

I've just finished his first level of color and need to go onto more color and detail. I always hesitate at this point - worrying about "ruining" something. But as DH says, "don't be a jerk, just do it" or something along those comforting lines. He's right, it's not a frickin Picasso and how else will I learn except from mistakes.

Happy Animal Wednesday everyone! Enjoy your pets

That is so exciting seeing a turtle lay eggs. One time we found baby turtles coming out of their egg-laid place. Nature is so great.

Love your fish.

I think the fish is lovely and it reminds me of some carp I took a photo of the day we left on vacation. Think I'll go find it and add it to my post today!
Glad to see you back here too!!!!
Happy kayacking.

That must have been really cool to see that turtle lay her eggs! I wish I had someone to kayak with.

I love Mister Fish head. Dear, don't work too hard, remember to play.

Happy Animal Wedensday. It seems I have seen more snappers this year than any other year. It must be a good year for them. Maybe it is all of this rain we have had.

I like it just like that. Very watery.

My 3 year old would be so jealous of you. She LOVES, LOVES, LOVES turtles. There is an aerobics center close to our house that has a huge pond ... we have to walk through there at least once per week so she can look for the turtles. When she does see one, she runs straight for it and said turtle, of course, quickly disappears : )

HA! Your husband sounds like mine. He says, "It's just paper!", and he's right, of course.

I'll bet it's neat to go kayaking lots like you do. I've never been, but I'm starting to get interested, reading about your adventures. Love the turtles.

Looking good. I hate that feeling of ruining something too. It will be fantastic when done.

I love the start of the fish Mim.
DH sounds like a tough (but loving) teacher. I hope I get to see his work one day!

I love your fish - he looks like a king salmon to me and the color is coming along fine. My husband helps "support" me wiht similar comments. I'm always worried to ruin something I've started. But that is what the whole process is about, learning as we go along. None of us are born as advanced artists.

Wow - great shots of the turtles. I think your fish is coming along swimmingly (sorry, I just had to say that.)
