Dancin' in the Moonlight...

(written yesterday - on my way to Chicago)

I am on a plane in a situation that I always try to avoid – I have no art supplies with me. No knitting. Nothing to keep my hands busy and my mind occupied. So my iPod is on and the music is doing its usual magic on me –

I love good music. There are chords and notes that resonate with me making me feel as if magic is in the air – that I can do anything. I want to dance in the aisles and wake up the dozy businessmen. Get them to shut their computers and come and tango. I love most kinds of music – classical, blues, rock, bluegrass, folk, and opera. Not all music sends me into a trance but there are some combinations of notes that seem as though they carry a message - if only I could really hear it I would know secrets of the universe. I want to sing out loud or pick up a fiddle and play; to follow the music wherever it would take me. I feel invincible and on the verge of genius. Right now Bruce is wailing that we should all be born to run…and I want to jump on a Harley and go roaring off down a highway. Now it’s Andrea Bocelli – singing his ever romantic song whose notes have been shown to tingle something special inside the brain…it makes me want to fall in love again – with that special tension of waiting for the perfect kiss. Oops now Carrie Underwood is smashing her ex’s headlights – and I want to just get revenge on that cheating bastard….

I’m gonna shut this thing off before I get in trouble on this plane.

Do you ever feel like this? Or do I have special musical receptors in my brain…

Note: I always wanted to be a back up singer for Eric Clapton since I saw Cream at the Garden in NYC way back when. In a slinky dress, at the back of the stage, singing a low harmony.

( oh no, it’s the Dixie Chicks – I’m gonna go all political now and take the long way around….)

I am intensely moved by music, but I rarely seek it out, whereas music is a big part of Peggy's life. Her CD collection numbers into the hundreds (she never pirates music; she actually pays for it), and she too loves her iPod. As to special receptors, I'm sure they exist. Did you know that there are even people (with good ears) who can't hear music? I know that birds can hear it, but I wonder about my dogs...

I am sure I have missed out on something really huge in life by not ever having gotten into music.
I do love listening to my DH sing and play guitar. But I have always been a follower not an independent music lover. I listen to what he likes. My loss. Or gain, as at least I listen to what he likes.
;-) ????
I like what you wrote and hoped you'd get up and dance in the aisle.

i've enjoyed music throughout the years, but never indulged in it too intensely, i do no like or own cds (i get bored with the same person singing 12 songs), i enjoy the radio more, various styles, different music all the time.

I love how music evokes certain memories. Van Morrison could sing the phone book in his mesmerizing repetitive way and I'd buy it and play it to death.

I hear you loud and clear Mim. I'm glad you have the music in you ;)

sometimes I like music playing and others not. However, I have had numerous fantasies about me singing in a rock band. Even though I cant sing. I do think music is very emotional and arouses emotions and memories.

Yes I am very affected by music, Having grown up in a musical family. My Dad played Saxaphone and flute, My Mom played Piano for awhile and I took Clarinet in School then later got a guitar. I no longer play either but I do love music and I can hear a song and be transported right back to 1965 or 1985 or what ever that song reminds me of. I can't paint or do any kind of art without some kind of music going on.
Mom and I would go grocery shopping and dancing music would come on and we used to look at each other and giggle because the thought would come to us both that we would liked to go dancing in the super market jumping up on the fruit stands kicking fruit off the stands dancing on them like Fred and Ginger in a musical movie. LOL My Mom was a crack up.

Sometimes, like I'm about to do now (thanks for reminding me) putting on just the right song can bump off a bad mood brewing. Music is powerful powerful medicine.

(Did you see the mustang movie I posted on my blog? Be kind, I'm still getting the hang of moving pictures....LOL as evidenced by the dog movie. Moving subjects AND moving camera are a bit much yet)

I have always felt that everyone's life should have a soundtrack. So much better than all the cacophony of our workaday lives. Have a safe trip.

Cream! I haven't thought about them in years but I can remember the cover of the album that my older sister had. They don't make bands like that anymore.

We were lucky enough to see Eric Clapton in Memphis. Great show!

I do love Eric Clapton but I'm one of those weird people who doesn't really care for music. When I'm driving in my car I either have talk radio on or nothing at all. I really prefer silence. I wish I enjoyed music more but I've never gotten into it. Yes, I know I'm weird.
