Reflecting on Saturday

I gave myself the day off yesterday and by that I mean that I didn't bike, hike or kayak -- but stayed home and caught up. DH went off kayaking with our nephew, so at least he wasn't underfoot and I got a ton of left over chores done - it was an unusual way to spend a beautiful Saturday - but do you ever get to that point where the "I'll get to that chores" start to overwhelm your brain? I do - and I have to deal with it. We have visitors coming in August and I wanted to start getting ready for that, setting up beds and making room. Putting away the piles of books that seem to grow in every room - herding them back into the library room. Returning some yarn that I hated, and some clothes to Marshall's. (got some great new red shoes there tho;) Cleaning the junk drawer so that I could find the extra key to the car. Organizing my ATC's (my ABC's are in a lovely little box now and I want to find another way to display them); and other artwork. Working on the massive quilt that I am making for my nephew. Just all those ordinary chores that seem to pile up.

The funny thing is that - looking around the house, I don't see any real tally of my efforts and I have to remember how busy a day it was and how much I really did get done. But additionally I needed that day alone, and just feel a tiny bit of regret for missing a day on the water.

But today - we're off bike riding come hell or high water. I'm hoping it doesn't rain - but then again, I'm not made of spun sugar and won't melt. Have a lovely Sunday - wherever you are.

Postscript:

It didn't rain...it poured. I can vouch for the fact that I am not spun sugar nor the Wicked Witch of the West. We did 16 miles, the last 6 in a deluge. It was truly lovely - really. Some photos below

First the sky looked like this
Then it got like this:

We got back to a wet car

And on the way home, this is what the sky looked like
A lovely field that we pass - couldn't resist taking a photo.

We all need days like this one. It sounds absolutely marvelous to me. Have fun while out biking today. I am not so sure you might not melt though.

Sounds like a perfect day to me Mim. I don't have enough time alone. I should be careful what I wish for though.

We still have so many boxes to unpack. Once the living room was set up and we had a room to feel cozy in, and oh, once the computers got hooked up we've been stalling on the rest of it. I'm tired of staring at and living with boxes. Looks like I'll have some days like your saturday!

It poured here last night but seems to be clearing now. I hope it does the same there.

Oh YES!!! I know. They don't come often (enough) for me...but when they do I attack with a vengence. But like you it doesn't ever LOOK like the outcome merits the energy put forth. And it NEVER lasts long at all. I swear MESS just grows naturally in this house. No matter how hard I try. Thank God I can NOT SEE it most of the time. It's a knack I have of being mess-blind. But when those blinders fall away (about when I know someone is coming to visit) I go bonkers and the frenzie begins.
Enjoy that bike ride, you EARNED IT~

glad you listened to your inner Hestia and stayed by the hearth except for the clothes and red shoes which shoes may take you down roads to new adventures.

I remember one day in Dallas when there was a break in the rain and three of us HAD to get a ride in....how muddy and stinky (urban mud smells bad) we all were when we got back. There was something special about the mud splattered faces-you are never too old to play in the mud.

I wanted to add: it was a cement trail-we didn't ruin any trail for anyone....

I remember a biking/camping weekend Deb and I took and it rained like a big, crazy dog while we were out on a trail. Some smart peeps (Deb) turned back when they should have but I had to prove something so I kept going, pushing my bike most of the way. Stupid, stupid, stupid. But other than the rain and wet socks, we had a lovely weekend : ) Glad to hear you got some organizaing Mim ... wanna come to my house?
