I confess, I love Romance Novels
They are my secret treasures, only read while in bed or alone where no one can see me. I adore the cheesy plots, where he rescues her from a dastardly fortune seeking cad, and in the end she rescues him from his bad-boy image. And throw some time travel in there - and you've got me hooked. My secret sanity last week on "vacation" was LISTENING to trashy novels on my ipod while I waited with mom at Dr. offices and sat and knitted. In my mind I was wearing silk and satin and being kissed (and MORE) by a dark handsome warrior - who protected me from all evil....ha ha - they all thought I was listening to opera!
Okay, to save my reputation - I read like a fiend and I just finished a depressing Anita Shreve novel also. Plus others to improve my mind, there are so many good books out there. And I haven't sunk to the Harlequin romance level books yet - No Siree - I have too much taste!!!
But the escape into that secret world is just such a treat....

what a great post. and i promise i won't breathe a word about this to anyone...!
You do make me laugh. Yes, I enjoy disappearing into another world sometimes, but, they are usually when I'm listening to episodes of The Archers... on my ipod, when it's too hot to do anything here, I'm deposited back to rural England, usually raining...
Thanks for the concern, as an ex-nurse, I sometimes pick up work caring for expats. This time it's at their home, lucky me....
We all need a little romance in our lives from time to time. They are the great escape.
Variety is the spice of life, right? And some dark smoldering eyes never hurt either...
Thanks for participating in 6WS!
Okay, I giggled over this great post. I read a lot also but rarely get beyond mysteries!!
Happy 4th Mim.
speaking of romance novels, you know you were the very first person to buy my book? the very first. i didn't know you then as well as now but i remember thinking 'i will always be grateful to mim.'
my ways to relax: blog, write poems, eat hot fudge sundaes, watch lost and american idol, eat artichokes with holladaise sauce, read tarot cards, eat chocolate, blog,....oh this is too revealing: no exercise, not a bit.
gee, this comment is all about me...
:) and xoxo
I cracked up reading your post today. I learned to read on Harlequins! My sisters and I had a big bag of them (I don't know what my mom was thinking!) and we'd read them and trade them around. Of course now I think they are a bit too simple and fill young girls minds with a warped sense of romance. My secret desire is to write Christian romance books. I figured they can't be that hard to write (same plot, just different boy and girl and place)and it might be extra income when I retire someday. And I wouldn't have to worry about writing the steamy parts because they don't allow those parts in the religious genre.
Oh I have read my share too, but find I love Mysteries. Like Laura Childs Tea shop mystery's. But it is fun to get away for awhile into a good light & fun book.
LOL!!!!!!
You just go ahead and indulge yourself with Romance dear!
I don't read much but I love to see a Romantic comedy every now and then.
But my last movie was the Mission, which left me depressed for days! I think it is healthy to do feel good things as well
Have a nice Sunday!
You are so funny Mim and I don't see anything wrong with that at all.
xooxo
how wonderful to have found a secret world you enjoy. mom read a lot of non-Harlequin romances too. i read mysteries.
Oh boy, I was going to ask you to send me that book but in the end you revealed that you were listening (secretly, of course) on your IPod. And I was getting into it too. LOL!!! Great post!
Linda
We all have our guilty pleasures....tee hee!
I used to love Danielle Steel books. I'd forgotten all about them until I read your post. I might have to stop by half price books on my way home and pick up one or two : )
