Rock Pearls

I saw an image in a magazine about an underground cave that had "Rock Pearls" formed from dripping calcite or something like that. I loved the image and have been drawing variations of it for days - using it to learn about color and shading. Here is a watercolor work in progress.....I'll probably do more before I stop obsessing about Rock Pearls.

You can embiggen if you click on it

Mim! this is just gorgeous.

I love the detail too, you must have had a really good time doing this.

you could turn this into material, have you heard of the company that does that? i am picturing this on fabric for outdoor furniture with it's beautiful earth tones.

or at least it should be in a nice frame. really lovely! i love those caves too.

oooooh, I love this!!! You should definately do more of these Mim.

I never knew what these were called, but I find that when I do underground paintings I always throw these little stones in.

I forget the name of the sight where you can turn it into fabric. I've even done it with one of my designs and I bought a small piece. JB is supposed to make a pillow cover for me but I think she forgot :P Maybe I need to ask KJ to remind her :)

Awesome stuff going on there Mim!!!

Now that's good. I have a Western Australian blogger who did something very similar with textiles. Lovely stuff.

Beautifully rendered Mim. I think you've done an amazing job of capturing the subtlety in the colouring ... and that way it kind of phases in and out of intensity. Very nice. Next time you are on youtube look up gursum pearls, there's a clip showing some stunning images taken in a cave in Ethopia. xx Jos

www.spoonflower.com is one site I've looked at to make fabric from a drawing. I was going to do it for my daughter from one of her designs. I love the colors in your rock pearls. It is beautiful just as it is, but would also make lovely fabric.

I love blogging and finding websites via blogs like spoonflower. I think your pearls in a fabric would make a pretty sarong...
