Six Word Saturday

Art should be give away freely

I do like to give stuff away, I have yet to even try to sell anything - probably based on my own fears that no one would buy anything. But I also feel that since I work at a profession not related to art, and have a good job, why stress out about trying to sell something I do as a hobby. The thought of negotiating pricing, and what something is "worth" - oy....the whole idea gives me the shivers. I live with a professional artist, who has sold his art for years - and he has keen ideas about how you value artwork.
Anyway - this is a philosophy for me...and me only. I support artists who have the courage to follow their heart and make it on their artwork - and I feel they are SO brave to do so.

So what is the point of this diatribe you ask? Well, I wanted a six word Saturday that linked to my give away from a few days ago!

So...with many little pieces of paper; and a hat full of names....and closed eyes....and anticipation...the winner (and champion) of the Miss Em original artwork is...

(clapping, cheering, hoorays)

Send me your address KJ - and our dancing miss em will be in the post as soon as possible (or as soon as I can get my act together to wrap it up, address her, and leave her for DH to mail)

Hope you enjoy her!!!

congrats kj, a worthy winner, please will you do this again. i do so love ms em and if you created a book about her, i would definitely buy it.but i do agree with you about selling my art, don't feel good enough...two lovely people have asked to buy my stuff, so i sent it to them asking only that they send a donation to their favourite charity, that worked for me and them.i felt so proud.

KJ probably snuck over to your house and added a million copies of her name!
Oh wait, Emily Rabbit would do that. Not KJ.

Okay, I guess I'm happy for her!
Yay KJ :D

I liked Soulbrush's answer about selling her work. Touching.

How come I didn't know your DH was an artist?

SB - I'm putting together a book of miss em that I can sell to you but only to cover costs for the book and shipping....I just don't want to make money from my friends!! It will be about $30.00 so I'll let you know. I too feel the same way about getting money for my artwork - particularly at this point in my life.

Gee - I must give the impression that my DH is just a bike rider and Miss Em taker-care-of! How selfish of me! Yup - he is an awesome artist, graphic designer for 30 years....had his own business...and is basically burnt out! I don't know how his ego stood the graphic design part..selling your work everyday - yikes!

Congratulations to KJ! Loved your latest Miss Em drawings....she stays real busy! I would rather give my art away but my hubby wants me to bring in some income and thinks I should use my artwork for that.....

Congrats to kj!! I am SO jealous lol and here I thought I rigged the pot. It is so great when someone nice wins.

I hear you on the selling, I never do either and probably for the same reasons. I just enjoy everyones friendship and art.

Congrats to KJ. And I agree with you about giving away art. Well, not if you are trying to make a living of it, but if you can afford to give it away, do it.
What goes around, comes around.

Yay for KJ!

I've come to think the hesitance to sell art or writing at least on MY part, comes to a control issue. If I put enough of myself in something to make it pleasing to ME...I don't want anyone editing it.

And by avoiding the traditional writing professions and become a sort of "corporate communicator" I actually perverted my craft to a horrifying degree. When I started marketing and selling ideas I knew to be false, I had to stop. And now I don't know how to start again.

It's hard to actually HAVE morals sometimes, isn't it?

Congrats to Lucky KJ...
I love Ms Em and I can buy her book with the money I make selling my photo cards, which is one part of my art making ;-)...I love buying other's art so why not sell my own if someone wants to own it? I don't see it as a problem at all.
I have used the money I won from my art awards to buy other's art and art supplies to make more art.
It's a nice circle! Just my humble opinion to add to the mix.
Where can we see some of your DH's art?
