Insomnia

I hate when this happens! I was out tonight with a cousin, had a great time. Didn't overeat or drink wine (I had to drive home, I was my own designated driver since DH is still out of town). I got into bed and fell right asleep and then BOOM - 1 hour later I am up and while tired am so edgy and twitchy that I can't go back to sleep. Its not RLS, I know what that feels like. It's something else. I know the feeling because I start to chew my nails.

I'm going to try some hot milk and a basement visit to the drawing tools. I'm hoping to be asleep before 3:00 am. Have plans for a breakfast fun with friends early, the Head-of-the-Charles Regatta tomorrow afternoon and DH comes home tomorrow night.

Maybe it's anxiety about too many plans tomorrow.....

Hope you found sleep. I just woke at 3:25am for a usual bout of insomnia myself. Good luck!

Yes, I just hate that insomnia business. So frustrating.

Mim, do you have a Whole Foods near you or a place that sells homeopathic stuff?
I take a product at bedtime called "Quietude." It can be taken with any medication you may already be taking because it's something our body produces anyway, this is just giving us more of what we need.
You let 2 tablets disolve under your tongue an hour before bedtime and then take 2 more at bedtime. I always forget the first two! It works great. I've even taken them during the day if I seem extremely anxious. Now DH and I buy them by the 6-pack. Boiron is the name of the company that makes them.

Sometimes when I awake like that it's a 'feeling' about something that ends up happening. Kind of a premonition. I hope your day holds no surprises. Yay, DH is coming home!

I dont know what RLS is. However, it is no wonder to me that you have this tension after all you have recently been through with MIL and not to mention throughout the year. I often have this type of insomnia where i fall asleep easily but then wake up and it is usu my thinking that keeps me away. I have many methods of trying to get back to sleep from taking hops tablets to rescue remedy to listening to a book on tape. Hope you were successful on getting to sleep before 3.

I hope you managed to get back to sleep last night. You certainly have enough on your plate to worry about right now. :)Bea

it is definitely anxiety, too much on your plate...they say the best way to overcome insomnia is to get up and do some ironing- you will soon feel sleepy, anyway it's today now, so hope you sleep well tonight.

It happens to me when I am excited about something. ALWAYS the night before I am to see my grandchildren the next day. (I often obsess about awful things that could happen to them...I hate admitting this fear) or like now being excited about this art show. Last night I dreamed (so I guess I was asleep) that I forgot all the art and there was no time to go back for it; that a childhood neighbors house burned down; and that I died. (I'd watched a movie before bed about a guy who dies and comes back as a guardian angel). When it's insomina it's racing thoughts that I cant seem to shut off. Last time I just had a firm talk with myself and said I HAD TO SLEEP or I'd be worthless the next day. Funny though usually my energy resurfaces and I'm fine the next day. I don't ever take anything for sleep.

Oh I hate that. It doesnt happen a lot but last night it hit me too. I refuse to get up. so I turned my little book lite on and read a bit. That ALWAYS puts me to sleep. lol The light doesnt seem to bother DH either. Beats my tossing & turning. But I am goign to try those pills Lolo mentioned.
Suki, RSL is Restless leg syndrome.

I rarely have insomnia but my sweetie has it often. He gets up and reads forums on the computer and then is worthless the next day because he's so tired. He also refuses to take any rx so I guess he just has to suffer. I get what you have ocassionally but mine is usually lists of things I need to do and how to do them and then I keep going over them, and making more lists....all in my head.

ps I like the NeoPlanet counter - I can see circles radiating from my hometown.

There you go Mim, you're in good company! I was awake at 4am this morning and just had a cup of tea and hit the blogs. Didn't help me get back to sleep but I've covered a bit of territory! I agree, I think it's excitement and anxiety all rolled into one.

I had a bout of it myself last night-I honestly think I was too tired. When I did sleep, boy oh boy did I sleep! I hope you found some relief and some deep sleep.

Don't forget your old friend hormones! That is a familiar trick they like to play on me.
I like Bach's Rescue Remedy (any health food store, but even CVS carries it). Two quick sprays on the tongue and you really do calm down.
My other fave trick is no carbs at dinner. They tend to be more fuel than my old bod needs before sleep.
Hope you got back to dream land pretty quick.
