Florida Trees

DH and I decided to stay in a hotel this week to give ourselves some alone time - sorely needed. Then we are moving into his mom's house for the rest of the week (on a new bed) and making that our home for the next few nights.

Till then we're in a local suites hotel and they have the most awesome things in the lobby.

First off, here is a shell mirror with sparkly things everywhere. They're going to find out who made it for me - I just LOVE it.

This Christmas Tree in in the lobby of the hotel and again - awesome! Completely docorated with fish and netting etc. My kind of tree.

That's really all for now! Hi and goodbye -

Christmas Blessing

My Mother in Law died last night, right before midnight on Christmas Day. We were expecting it....yet expectation has nothing to do with facing reality does it? There were many tears all around, and they'll continue today as we inform friends and family.

During the day, she would often smile, and once she mouthed "mama" so we are hoping she is with her mama and her daughter and husband now, and is getting to know the baby she lost at birth. What else can we hope for or imagine?

Much to do now, but we're taking some time just to be together, and start to get on this different reality train.

We agree that in many ways, having her go peacefully and without pain was the best Christmas present that any of us could get.

Christmas 2010 will certainly be in our memories for a long time.

Odd day off work, snow and Christmas lights.

I am staying home this morning because it's snowing and its a good excuse to baby my cold, and watch out the window. It's light snow, and lovely looking.

Then I wandered around with my camera and took a picture of our tree - it's a little tabletop fake tree.
For years I didn't want a Christmas Tree - despite DH's insistence that he wanted one. But eventually I gave in and I enjoy it now. We haven't had a live tree in many years, and this little fake one doesn't hold all our ornaments but it works because we are rarely here for Christmas - we are usually with his mom.
Anyway - the lights are pretty and cheery. I like to keep it up and lit thru January - it helps make the dark nights less January-ish.

wah wah bah humbug wah wah

Oh dear - I've been such a downer lately that I've decided to wallow in it for a few minutes. DH is away in Florida and I don't join him until Friday. I have an empty house with a silly little tree sitting on a table. The cards are not up! the stockings are empty! And I have a cold. A real honest to goodness, snuffly nosed cold. The kind that makes one look very unattractive, red-nosed and grumbly.

Wah Wah Wah!!!!!

There....I feel so much better now.

There is a tiny bit of snow outside, enough to look pretty, but not enough to have to shovel or anything like that. Presents are all wrapped to be sent out tomorrow. Cards still waiting to be sent but they'll get there.

I might even join in and show some christmas decorations tomorrow...we'll see how crabby I am.

I'm off to the Lily-white-feather-bed-ball for some needed rest.

Weekend in short sentences

Good flight down, knitting, movies, row to myself.

Good to see mom - dinner waiting. Good sleep

"Breakfast" with MIL - who doesn't really eat. Then she went back to bed.

Saw cousins from North and South. Hung out at a yarn store for an hour or so. Got some awesome yarn.

Saw Mom off on a jaunt with her friends for an afternoon tea party. The 90 year old friend picked up the 87 year old. I told them to be good, or at least be discreet. They giggled and drove away.

Went to my MIL's. Still in bed. The caretaker had the evening off and I had my hands full with doing nothing. MIL wouldn't get out of bed for hours. Coughed and gagged all night - it was truly awful. Hospice coming in as soon as I can get on the phone tomorrow.

Got home to moms that night and found that my Sunday afternoon flight was canceled - so had to take a 6:00 am flight. Cried a bit from exhaustion and disappointment as mom and I had planned a morning together.

Got home - got in the door and took my shoes off, undid the bra (ahh) and got a phone call from mom that her sister had just passed away. Literally about 1/2 hour ago. Mom sobbing on the phone, I felt so bad not to be there with her. But my cousins came over (Aunties son and daughter) and took mom out to dinner and to simply be together.

Now...work tomorrow, then drive to NYC for a funeral on Tuesday and sit Shiva on Wednesday.

Oy.

Who wrote this movie?

Weekend away ....again

I am "popping" down to Florida for the weekend - simply because it looked like I didn't have to work this weekend and MIL is getting weaker and I'm not sure when I can get there next. Maybe Christmas but we'll have to see.

I won't miss the freezing cold, but still wish I was home in this season, as I love wrapping presents and finishing shopping and watching schmaltzy movies. Especially if there is snow coming down, which I think we expect. But I'll suffer by the pool...maybe catching a few rays!

Be good all of you, and have a lovely weekend.

Animal Wednesday - photographs

Go HERE for some wonderful animal photographs. I ordered one for a Christmas present and one for myself. LOVE the baby porcupine - isn't he/she adorable?

I have been rather absent from the blogs lately - too much going on between work, family and Holiday stuff. But it's all good - mostly and things should settle down after Christmas. How do we find the time to stuff all this into our days - I just don't know. Added to this is the fact that I wanted to handmake some presents this year - which I love to do - but it sure adds time. But the plus side is that I get to watch all the schmaltzy Christmas movies with a clear conscience and strings of yarn all over the floor.

Enjoy! and HAW to all.
