I love going to the beach in California - not that I actually got to see this actual animal, but there is usually something going on if you get to the more secluded beaches. Seals, birds, lots of starfish, elephant seals. I'm in San Diego without my camera - but I did hear some seal barking off in the distance yesterday during a late afternoon walk.
HAW to you all

So weird Mim. I woke up this morning to the sound of barking and have no idea where it could have come from.
Did it come from you dear one.
xoxoxo
Isnt she glorious out there sunning herself?
You came to California WITHOUT your camera? Are you nuts?
LOL
Again, so near and yet so far....

I agree with Lynn...WHAT??? no camera!
I love looking at those seals, thanks.

These are some of the more unusual beasts around. I love to hear them too. I am sure if you lived near them you would get tired of it they are so vocal. HAW.
What a glorious animal! I hope that you are in your own bed with your hubby beside you tonight and that you sleep the whole night through!
mim, i've been to san diego long ago and i thought it was a beautiful lush city. i could have lived there then. i don't know about now.
i will be glad to know you are home and cozy. i like the thought of sending you hot muffins for sunday morning.
xoxo
Nothing like the sound of a barking seal. Hope you are soaking in some sun. And getting to rest a bit although I assume this is a working trip.
When DH and I first moved to Monterey there was an invasion of Sea Lions because it was an el nino year. Little did we know what that meant! The waters are unusually warmer and the sea lions came in droves!! It was SO stinky, honestly, restaurants along the wharf had to close. There were thousands of them (and we didn't get any sleep from the constant barking.) I found it charming and exciting because we were new there.
There were so many of them they were in the streets causing traffic jams and even one little guy popped into the post office because he came through a storm drain! He made the local paper :)
The down side for some folks was the havoc they caused with their beautiful boats. Sea lion poop everywhere! Some boats even sank from the weight of so many of them.So Mim, yeah, cute from a distance ;)
The night I stayed in Monterey I could barely sleep because the sea lions barked all night long. I was so delighted! I am sure that it would have gotten old, but every time I woke it was like they were saying "Oh, you're here you're HERE!"
In reality they were probably saying "if you can hear this, please send more fish...."
I would swim with them on a rocky area where sharks could not venture in to. I get amused at people reaching out to them though-they don't have hands, but they have some formidable teeth-people and their blasted hands.....
Such a random thought but when I was on my honeymoon, my hubbie and I swam with sea lions in CuraƧao and it is one of my most fond memories ... The pic in your post reminded me of that very fun day : )
