Animal Wednesday - a great Saturday at the Farm

On Saturday - a gorgeous day - we went to "Woolapalooza" at the local Audabon Farm. I was a bit surprised that DH agreed to go, as he is not a huge farm animal fan - but it was a lovely day and perfect to watch sheep dog trials, sheep shearing, see baby animals and just enjoy the sunshine.

The sheepdogs were awesome, darting around like black and white streaks - low to the ground and so agile and swift...and talented! They could sift out one sheep from the herd and bring it into the fenced in area - with just a whistle blow and a hand signal. They were truly fascinating to watch and I stood there for hours enjoying the sights.

Of course there were other animals to see also. It's lambing time, and the tiny babies were tottering around baaing plaintively.

A few slightly older ones were grazing with their moms...

and a few others were enjoying the sunshine and having a bit of a nap.

And the goats! Wow - this is mom...
and her two babies. Can you see the one yelling MAAAAAA????

Then there was the chicken house, with chickens from around the world. I didn't get too many good pictures of them all, but a few struck me as photoworthy...

....particularly this one - who is a Polish something or other Chicken.
And this classic chicken pattern - I can't for the life of me remember what they are called...

Then there were the pigs....I could not believe the size of these animals - no little pink porky pigs at this farm.

It was a lovely peaceful day and that is...

....the end!

Happy Animal Wednesday everyone.

Ahhh such a lovely day out!
Those border collies are amazing indeed! I have only seen them on TV.
And those sweet little lambs, such bringers of Spring.
We have them here as well but now they are standing in the cold seems like we have some winter days in spring as well :(

Happy Animal Wednesday!

Oh, on my white deer post, just click on the words below the photo and the video link will come up. For some reason, I could find a way to put it directly on my blog.

Mim, I am green with envy...how I would have loved to visit the farm (love the name of the event) and see those adorable babies. (The parents were gorgeous too..)Love, love, LOVE the roosters!

Don't you adore and admire the Border Collies? Two good friends of mine have some - and they are the smartest dogs! And....they just love to "herd" anything - even me!

Great photos!

Have a lovely Animal Wednesday!

Hugs,

♥ Robin ♥

Oh, border collies-how do I love thee, let me count the ways. My baby boy is master of the running crouch-he can crouch and move faster than most dogs can run full out. It has something to do with the angle of their shoulders.

Herding dogs are amazing creatures-but not for everybody. For the people that they ARE a good fit for-they are a little piece of heaven.

Oh how fun. I would loved to have been there too. Our Annie is a boarder collie. A red and white one but full blooded boarder collie. She wasnt trained to herd but she sure can do it. It must be bred in them. They are a smart breed for sure. Loved the other animals too especially the lambs.

Wow Mim, what a gorgeously fun day! The animals are fascinating. Love the sheperds, dogs are so happy when they have a job, and those lambs! I'm not a vegetarian anymore, but this is why I just can't eat lamb! My AW post is really silly today, but I've been stressed, so I'm blowin' off a little steam! The Mr. linky didn't post my correct link for some reason, so it's below - I gave you a shout-out. HAW!

Great pictures of the farm event! I would love to see herding dogs in action. I've never seen them before except in the movie Babe and other stuff on TV.
