Animal Wednesday - a colorful bug

We saw this bug while bike riding in Florida - it looks like a grasshopper to me but didn't fly away.

I was listening to my ipod, just ridin' along when I saw him (or her). My ipod is one of those little ones that has a video feature but it's hard to use (for me) or to figure out how to use, or to turn on or off - I needed a 10 year old to help me. Anyway, I got it going in order to take this video. Can anyone identify what type of buggy this is?

Happy Animal Wednesday on this first day of September.

Well, it's a FAST bug. Looks like he/she is in a hurry. Perhaps it's house is on fire? Or it's late for an appointment. It looks determined to get away from the shadow that is following it. The ground looks like conglomerate stones, maybe granite.
Not comfortable for walking barefoot which is why the FAST bug may be in such a hurry trying to get to smoother ground. I hope you find this most helpful.

I don't know a thing about bugs except that I don't usually like them at all and would prefer not to look too closely. I like your comment that you needed help from a 10-year old. Me too.

Mim, I "believe" KJ is correct....I recognise the "infamous'granitebodishous bug!
You made me laugh....poor bug, he was really camera shy and was thinking - "OMG! There is a HUGE Giantess standing over me, casting an enormous shadow...I MUST escape...." I chuskled when he turned direction and you were not pleased! Too funny! And....I, still have problems figuring out how to use the video part of my camera....

HAW!!!! Thinking of you and sending love and strength!

Wow! He's sure big and fast. I like bugs and would love to know what this one is. You never know what you'll see just riding along on a bike...

...as long as bugs don't get ON me, I'm happy. ID'ing them would be too much like a 'relationship' with them, lol
