Cute (I think so anyways) Project

I saw this idea in a magazine somewhere - just a mention of it. I thought it looked like fun so I decided to give it a try.

The weekend that my DH was away, I went to the thrift store and for $10.00 I got a small table in terrible condition. Just about 24 inches by 18 inches. Painted brown or shellacked and flaking off all over the place.

Here is the top in the original condition.

I turned it over, added wooden finials to the ends of the legs and two pieces of wood to one end between two legs, painted the whole thing, added a covered cushion and here it is...a small pet bed!!!

The things on the headboard came off an old frame, and are temporary here. I'm fooling around with making a plaque for the headboard with "DOG" or "CAT" but want to add that later for whoever get's this.

Ain't it cute???

( Yes, I realize that I need a more "professional" setting for photographs aside from the basement workshelf. But it's early and the light is bad everywhere else so I just did it. Gotta get with the background idea).

I'm making another cover for the bed part. I started out making a fitted cover but realized that it would be better to have a sort of fitted sheet. The one I was in the middle of making is actually a bit small, so I'll start again on that.

This was a fun, quick project....now....anyone have a tiny dog who needs a bed?????

I must have read the same magazine because I think I saw this project. You did a great job. Fun. Maybe I should do this for Oly and keep it here for him to use when he visits. He really prefers a lap though.

Great job....looks adorable! I also like the kid's table/chairs, hope to see them finished. What did you find out about the children's silverware? I love going to thrift/junk/antique stores. Recently, my favorite one went out of business, didn't get there often but have been many times through the years. Most importantly, I hope your MIL is improved. Such a taxing process, physically and emotionally....my thoughts and prayers are with you all. So glad y'all could be a big part in the enjoyment she has had the last few years. Have I ever shared that it NEVER fails when I first get to your site and see Auntie Mims that "Auntie Em, Auntie Em, Auntie Em" from The Wizard of Oz goes through my head! Just sayin'. Take care.

ooooh, so fit for a Princess!!!!

I love how you busy yourself when there's so much going on in your life. You channel your stress very well!!

Mim, you may want to make a removable washable cover for the cushion ;)
Just a hint from a small doggy mom!

Absolutely fit for a king (or queen)! I think it would look good in Cris' house for one of her royal cats! Her style!!! Def needs a removable cover (thought that too)...
Made me smile today!

OhMyCat, you could sell these to kooky pet people...be hard to ship but at local shows...they would be a hit I think. Any pet boutiques in your area that would display one for you?

How clever! i love repurposed things, you not only rescued something from a landfill, but also made something beautiful and comfortable for some little furry friend!
(that bug might fit on it, he/she was big!)

Haha.. Lynn knows me so well. I was going to say it would be cute for a cat but yes you would need removable washable covers. I love repurposed furniture.

I think this is an EXCELLENT idea! It would sell great at craft bazaars - pet people love to pamper their pets! I have an old coffee table that I just haven't thrown out yet, I may be making a princess pet bed myself!

I think what I am going to do is to buy a softer doggie bed, and make it square with a cover - removable and washable!!!
