More from the River float on Sunday - as I said - the sky was cloudy and the colors were intense. This river is very close to our house, only a 5 minute drive away, and it's just about my favorite kayaking route. As I was paddling on Sunday I amused myself by thinking about growing up in Brooklyn yet here I am floating down a gorgeous river. Sometimes it amazes me that I'm in this spot - how easy it would have been to stay. Not bad, just different and certainly none of this scenery.
I crept up on this guy and got a good shot. I have to get close with my little point and shoot as it only will zoom 3x. But this guy stayed still until....
...he got spooked and flew away.
This little family was nesting under a bridge. The mama and papa are shown here but when the mama bird left, there were two tiny heads peaking out - so adorable. Hard to get a photo of them, as the river was pushing me along, I had to hold onto the bridge to stay in place and take a picture with my third arm - at least that's what it felt like.
Along the river bank were houses and barns and gardens. These guys were resting on the riverbank until I came close and then they hustled away. Cute picture tho' don't you think?
Have a happy Animal Wednesday!

Yay! more river paddling, my favorite (even though i hardly ever get to paddle in one). I loved seeing all the wildlife with you.
good job on the photos too, it is hard to keep hold of your paddle while composing a picture!
These are fabulous photos. How do you keep from dunking your camera in the water? I love the Blue Heron. wow to be so close. What a day for a day dream...:)
Love those geese and all that greenery! What lovely places to visit!!!! HAW
You're lucky to live so close to such a place and wildlife. Please take some river photos as fall comes along, I bet it's just gorgeous.
These photos are amazing - love all the wildlife so close to your home.
Excellent, super shots Mim!!! That heron one is stunning. I love the composition of the geese too. Wow! What a day for you ;)

I can only echo how lovely to live so close to such a natural wildlife habitat.... you will always have somewhere to go when you need your spirits lifted...
And, as someone who had spent a lot of time in NYC (Brooklyn included), I can relate to your looking back and thinking..."Gosh, here I am now...what a change from Prospect Park"!
Lovely shots...that Heron.....wow....and I just adore Geese!!!! They always make me smile.
Thanks Mim for another gorgeous day on the River. (Reminds me of a piece by Delius called "By the River"....lovely, tranquil and flowing...

Still very pretty, Mim. So serene.
I've discovered that the river rafting outfit near me will not let me participate because I can't swim. Darn! They said if I can come with a buddy I can do it. I need to find a buddy now. :)
Oh well, there's still the Zipline!
that last shot is award winning, mim.
