More Watercolors.....

My first "Crowd" picture upset Lynn - and I understand why. It was darker, very different body-people - bigger heads, skinnier bodies. I also understand why that was - everyone at work has been discussing "The Book Thief" and I just started reading it.

Anyway, I set out to make a happier watercolor and came up with these three. I like doing the primary color coats, and blue sky.

Do you like any of these vs the original and if yes/no.....why? I have my own answers....

You have changed the mood in these first two. The people are smiling and in the second dancing. They look hopeful and exhuberant.
As opposed to the very first one that reminded me of Jews marching to the death camps crowded together looking hopeless.
It was a very good painting, just a different MOOD.
The third one here changes mood again I think. But not quite as dark as the very first one. More like this group is mired down in a snow bank. ;-)

It's a good thing when you can evoke feelings from your viewers I do believe!

I Didn't have that association with that first crowd....so I like them all just as much. To be they are happy crowds as they all have these colorful outfits.
I always love your watercolors!

Although these are good, bright and uplifting, I very much liked the muted, more somber look of the original. I remember thinking when I first saw it that it was different from your previous paintings, but that I liked it.

I didn't think of the first as being quite so dire. I thought maybe you were thinking of the people being let go at work. Definitely a somber feeling. I think that art says different things to you as what is going on in your life. Like this second one reminds me of the people at the church I used to attend as they were dedicating a new church this past weeknend. It had been a struggle to build yet they have a beautiful new building to worship in. These also show me how color can create mood. Well done.

As the purchaser of the first, I can say I don't regret my choice. Though these are also lovely. I love the people in the first and the sky in the second.

I spent a lot of time in Buffalo NY and it was very dreary there. Gray skies, businesses closing, plus a tough time in my life. The brightly dressed people under the dark sky remind me that even when things aren't so sunny, we can still control our reactions and find hope.

I love them all. most original. i didnt find the first one that grim. however, the first two here with folks looking and reaching upward definitely have an uplifting feel to them. love the variety of colors of their clothes.

I think they're all pretty great. The first one had more varied expression, perhaps.

Well, I love everything you do, but now that Lynn has expressed why the first one disturbed her I understand it. To me, I got what cate got out of it. Like the SARK program I'm supposed to be working on "Glad No Matter What." So, poop to the grey skies and find the happiness :)

The new group I like the first one the best. I like the happy-hippy dancing too but I prefer a starker sky with these colored jackets.

The bottom one looks like they're all sinking into a big ol' fog bank which I personally have had my fill of. Delightful people though, waiting to find the sun on the other side!

I really like what you're doing Ms. Mims ;)

Maybe because I'm a church goer, the second looks like a group singing praises to God - isn't it funny how people's own experiences sway the way they see the pictures. I kind of agree with Lynn about the moods, although the bottom one could just be a disappointed crowd leaving after a poorly operated circus, or finding out Disney Land is closed unexpectedly.
