I started a Friday night drawing class last night. In the past it's been life drawing or portrait drawing and actually, I thought this would be the same - didn't read the class description. But it is really a basic drawing class. At first I was not sure, but I like the instructor, he knows me and in the end - of course - I learned. We did a still life and some random drawings, he knows my style and helps with little things. So no matter what, I'll learn.
First he had us use ballpoint pen (which I abandoned after the block shown below) and do our own mental still life - all about volume and light source and shadows. I think I was the only one who ended up with a block of swiss cheese, and snake and a boat full of mice on a water filled table top. Tom was great, and helped me with the top of the snake - i'm not great on volume.
And then he set up a still life for use to work on. And I really did work on that cup laying on it's side - I really struggled with that perspective.
Next week starts my comic class - which I am very excited about
I've got to get the scanning and computer thing down...and the word placement - Yikes.
But - I've got 39 pages done so far. Thirty Nine!!! I can't believe it. Once I get them all scanned in I'll show you....
Wish me luck!!

this is exciting Mim. Hope you enjoy and learn in both classes. Can't wait to see your new Miss Em once scanned.
I bet you really liven up a class with your imagination. Any body can be ordinary. Have fun with these classes. There is always something we can learn. Fun drawings.
I am glad Mz Em is finding more fulfilling than she thought. Good luck with the scanning. I don't have luck scanning anything.
class sounds fun! good luck with it all!
wow, that guy set up a whole lot of elipses for that still life! One of the hardest things to draw, ever. You did a great job!
Even though I'm "primarily" self-taught, those basic drawing classes always end up being so valuable. My favorite course I ever took was basic design and I rocked it! (Maybe that's why it was my favorite :))
I think you're gonna rock the comic class Mim. I really do!
You and Ms. Em have a lot to say to the world, so get it out there girlfriend!
Two words...Wooooooo-Hoooooooo!
xo♥
Hurray for you indeed! You are going to town! Love it all. Do not let ANYONE curb your imaginative mind. Love the mice in the boat, the snake in the apples, and MS EM is the BEST!!!! Way to Go!!!!
WONDERFUL! I'm so excited that you are taking both classes! The comic book class sounds like it would be so much fun. Your Miss Em is way better than Batman, Spiderman or whatever super hero the rest of them have. Miss Em is the REAL hero!
A very nice still life, Mim.
Be prepared for nerds and lots of 'em. I think you'll ace the comic class frankly. Oh and there's an Italian cheese that actually has worms in it ugh - formaggio marcio
Mim, you always have such a good take on things. You seem to extract every morsel of experience and information from every class you take, and then use that to make your own art that much better. I love the cheese/snake/boat drawing! What a hoot! I'll bet you have trouble falling asleep, what with your imagination. - Or maybe that's where all this comes from.
Great work Mim! I can't wait for your comics, I love your imagination.xoxo
good for you to be following your bliss and your muse!!
(and i can't believe you did those drawings in ballpoint pen?? - you are brave!)
