I realize that this isn't going to work....

I love this little quilt and have worked hard on it, using different colors than the traditional baby quilt and backing it with minky cloth (real soft and fuzzy) which made it difficult to sew. But, when I looked at it today in the sunshine and thought about the couple that I was giving it to, I realized my mistake. They won't like it! They are much more of a traditional couple, and are not artistic at all (if you know what I mean). They both like fairly standard colors and designs - and this ain't tradional.

So I ran downstairs and found some cool patterned cloth and am whipping up a new quilted blanket which while still cool looking, will be much more traditional and usable for this couple with their new baby.

Lucklily a friend of mine's nephew is having his second baby (well, she is anyway) and he is an artist who studied at Pratt, and he's going to get this quilt as a present from either me or her!

I'm may be overcautious in this, but I'd rather play it safe with a hand made present than give them something that they think is ugly and won't use it. I think that this has been bugging me in the back of my mind, and I'm glad I realized it before I gave it away.
I've still got these combo's to work on for other "commissions". Lilac purple with fleece backing for a little girl and an old set of 1950's kitchen curtains (well washed and soft as a diaper) for another unusual baby quilt - that one might be put onto Etsy.

Mim, I think the original quilt is stunning, truly stunning. You know your recipient, so go with your heart. Maybe you could let the choose between the two?

Thanks Deb - you know sometimes your gut just tells you to take another tack. I am going to bring both into work and get the opinion of a friend there who knows them both...but I'm thinking the second one (I'll post a picture later) will be better for this busy family.
But thanks for liking it! Means alot to me.

I agree with Deb. The quilt is so beautiful and unique. They'd be nuts not to love it but whomever receives it will be very lucky.

I LOVE the artsy quilt best! Wonderful colors, wonderful use of the printed pictures. I liked the way you spaced and used them. I think this is a WINNER all around.

The more traditional one is cute and I imagine fast too, as you only had to top stitch around the little squares already there?

Love the old fashioned fabric with the kids watching TV circa 1950 maybe?

Well done, Mim...good work here.
And more to come. I look forward to see them all.

How anyone could find it in their heart to NOT like that quilt is beyond me - it's wonderful Mim, really beautiful - the colours work so well and the whole quilt is just beautifully designed.
