As I learn more and more about art, I am trying to copy as many paintings as I can. Here is a try at copying one of Hopper's work. What seemed simple...was NOT.
Yay - I can comment again. for some reason the last couple of times I just couldn't get comments to come up!
This was a great idea - things are never as simple as they seem on the surface. I can see from all the different values that you've really looked hard at this. Still, you captured that calm stillness that Hopper creates.
Simplicity is often the most difficult thing to attain. You can't achieve it, because you lose it in the trying-it must just happen. Looks like you got it right my friend!
I once read a quote - 'making things complicated is easy - making them simple is very hard indeed', can't remember who said it, anyway you made a very good job of this.
You are doing well. It's a good way to learn; by copying the work of others. You discover so much in the work by the process of imitation. Wonderful way to expand your body of knowledge.
wow. this one is great. i love the grey tones and hopper too. i remember when i had to copy a picasso´s woman portrait and it looked so easy, but took me days and brought me to appreciate his art.

This is wonderful Mim! And I love that you did it in grey tones. He's one of my favorite painters.

It is a wonderful way to pay homage@ And so interesting too.
simple or not, this is spectacular.
Makes me want to draw more of my own photographs. Those doorways at Fort Point forinstance, this reminds me of them. This study is very well done.
