Animal Wednesday - baby spikey

Isn't this the cutest little fella? Don't you just want to pick him up and smooth down those spikey quills?

What is it about baby animals that makes us go "awwhhhh"? is it the chubby belly? The sleepy face?

The photography is from this site - lovely animal photos.

Have a happy Animal Wednesday

In Hebrew there is a word I like "miskin" it sort of means poor thing. It was the first word that came to mind when I saw this poor little thing. ;-)

the first thing i wondered was how do baby and Mother snuggle?

i have never never ever ever met a baby of any kind or species i did not love immediately. how in the world do we and our leaders and our nations lose sight of that?

Gosh I love him!

I'm familiar with her work. Amazing studio shots. I don't know how she does it.

Oooh, maybe I'll make a paper clay one!

Oh so sweet! I would love to see one this small. We did see a mama and baby once in Africa, but it was dark (their nocturnal)and they were running quickly away!

I'm not sure about all porcupines but the African ones do have sharp quills soon after birth. They can cuddle because their quills lay flat.

I have 2 quills, found on trips to Africa. One was picked up by my husband in a dirt road. we saw a baby baboon playing with it and we waited for it to drop. When it did, chuck jumped out of our land rover and got it for me. Then on our last trip, I was really hoping to find another one. I told one of our guides when he asked what I'd like to find. But we never did. On our last day when he was driving us to the airstrip, there lying on the seat was a beautiful quill!

They measure between 10 1/2" and 14" long and are very sharp on both ends. I love them!

I've seen this site before, but they are sooo cute, that I've watched them all over again. I think I am melting here behind my desk.
