I was so tired from yesterday that I didn't have much energy, but had to finish this commissioned baby quilt for someone at work. This was an interesting project for me, in that the woman I was making the quilt for wanted a "ladybug" theme. I am not fond of black and red together and hoped that I could find something that she would like. Together we found this main fabric that had ladybugs - but I still found it insipid and colorless. Luckily I had the green spotted fabric and the pink and green fabric and I think that keeps it from being too insipid overall.
This is the first time that I have asked someone what they want to have for a main fabric, and it's going to be the last. From now I the fabrics come from my selection only, unless they have something very special. I simply can't get excited by a fabric that I don't like. They can buy them or not, I really don't care. What is important to me is to enjoy what I am doing and get aesthetic pleasure from it. In terms of detail, this is the best one I have done yet. MOSTLY all the corners match up, I just had some trouble with the binding but no on will ever know.
By the way, someone at work said that "you don't use a baby quilt, you hang them on the wall". Hello! someone help me. What good is a baby quilt if it isn't covered in baby!
I am falling asleep at the computer. Time for bed.

I like the green. My instructions for class were to practice with scraps-but I bought some fabric I liked. What's the point if you don't like what you are doing? I can always use the squares to make coasters or heaven knows I can always use a spare dog blanket. Scraps, indeed!
i agree with you, the whole point is that the 'quilter' gets to design it herself. i really like it,and if it doesn't get used for the baby then silly them.
beautiful baby quilt! and i used baby quilts on babies and now my daughter has them and uses them with her babies ;-)
I have made a few patchwork blankets from knitted squares,full size, with one decidedly free-form. The green, white and red one on our bed is getting looped and snagged to bits by the cat so I am having fun knitting patches and sewing them on all over.
I should take photos.

I love green. And all your quilts look so soft and cuddly. What batting do you use? Of course you wrap the baby in the baby quilt. Maybe when the baby outgrows it you can hang it on the wall. My babies at age 3 now use theirs for wrapping their doll babies.
Thanks all, it was a great success at work, and I'll make more for others. I used Dream Wool batting in this, but I also like low loft dream cotton. I used the wool, because I had enought left over for this little quilt and hate to waste anything.
