I can be a "published" author

Check this out.  I just might do it.  Rather egotistical, but what the heck.

I've looked at self publishing too, because a lot of the things I really am interested in are niche markets. I'd like to right more about weight loss surgery, but in trying to set up interviews with doctors, it turns into a session where they explain why I need to focus the book on THEIR practice, yadda yadda yadda.

I really just like telling people's stories, but if I grouped them into categories-bloggers, weight loss patients, horse people, lady bikers....each collection would have a small market.

The other option is lady magazines in supermarkets-but they really aren't know for in depth portraits.

Go for it...but what's the book going to be about? Maybe I've missed you talking about this whilst I've been doing other things...

I actually signed up for an account here because I wanted to put my best of "IF" entries in a book. (suggested by lots of people.) But I found the site very un-user friendly! I'm not a techy and I'm easily intimidated. Still, I spent hours on it one day only to lose it and then not go back and save some of it. Very frustrating! I also asked for help and never got it. Let me know how you like it. There's also Lulu.com

And it's not egotistical to want to make a book :) You do it Mimsy!

It is not egotistical at all. And there is so much which can be done this way.I also though about making a little booklet about my art. Usually when I do some art, it is alwaysfor a purpose (like the book covers, or stionary cards, etc). Itis always given away and I don´t have any art of myself at home. So should anyone want to see anything, I could at least show them some pics of my art. Here in Germayn, even some professional (and good) writers publish their own books when they have written stuff which won´t be published by publishing houses as their books won´t be sold in high numbers.
I guess that was the main reason for my husband to start his own publishing house. It will only publish high quality literature not depending at all of sales figures. That means the owners won´t earn any money, but will eventually (hopefully) get a good reputation.
