Work Space

I've never really had an "office" for myself in the house, I never needed it. But now, with the computer projects (blogging, photo's, making books) I found that I really needed something a bit more organized.

This is my old desk. I've had this little wicker desk since high school, and it was an antique then. I love the way it looks, its so cute but it was not an efficient desk for working at. It only has one tiny drawer, and all my other supporting stuff had to be stored in cubbyholes. The keyboard was on my lap and things were never to be found, or were falling off the table.

So, after much to do, I bought a new desk. DH was reluctant, because it wasn't cheap - but I went with the cheapest I could find. And because our space is small, I had to buy a child's version of a desk so it's narrow and not too deep. It works in the space. It has three drawers, and shelves and cubbyholes. I got it yesterday and spent the night filling it up with my junk.
See all the cubbyholes filled with my papers and office stuff? And please note the beautiful painting of Samson done by the talented and oh so generous Ms. Lolo. Something I will look at every day.

I'm going to put some cork board behind the computer monitor so that I can post artwork, pictures, notes.

It'll actually take me awhile to get used to this space, how to sit...what's the most comfortable. And because of the orientation, I now have to sit with my back to the window, but a quick twist of the head and I can see the driveway and street.

For some reason I see things in photos that I never see in "real time". Right now I see that the walls need some color - we've stayed with safe "Navaho white" for years and while it's peaceful, it can be a bit boring right? I've got terracotta tiles in this room (well, imitation terra cotta) so maybe a nice green?

Off to Saturday chores and fun. Have a good weekend my friends - and thank you for all your wonderful comments on my last post.

what quaint desks, old and new. i like the whiteness actually, maybe fill the walls with your own art, framed, that's what my art teacher has taught me to do, to be proud and frame my stuff, which i now do!

Where is your keyboard? Does it still have to sit on your lap? Oy.
Cute set up. I like Souls suggestion for framing and hanging your art. Enjoy your new "office".

When I had my big antique drafting table that I bought on Cape Cod on my first honeymoon, I used to keep a large cork bulletin board next to it and I filled it with some of my favorite images. Some were cards, pics from magazines, whatever. And it made me smile to see so many wonderful images.

I got rid of the drafting table and that husband ;)

I love your new desk, and I noticed Sampson right away! That's what I love about those little canvases. You just tuck em' in where you can see them.

Happy weekend Mim ;)

Yay, how rejuvenating! I like the idea of the cork behind the monitor to post things on (haha, I use the 2nd computer I have on my desk for that--there's stuff on my old computer I still have to use cuz I haven't bought new programs for my newer computer...silly, I know but I tell myself I don't have time to learn something new!)

Eventually I want to rearrange where my computer desk is so I can look out the slider to the backyard...but will have to get someone in here to reroute the 3 computers that are down here--Mikes pc, and my new and old macs.

Have fun with the new stuff!

What a sweet antique desk Mim. Maybe you could use it as your dressing table?? Some day you might have a spot for it again.

I love how organized your new desk looks. You will be so efficient now. Have a happy weekend.

i can just see you sitting at this desk, mim. everybody's right in mentioning to be sure you have cork or some place to hang and display your favorite images.

i have an awesome wrap around desk with plenty of shelves and i don't for the life of me know why i am never-the-less still disorganized.
but i love my desk. i know you will too.

xoxo!

I love them both and I like the idea of a child's desk. When I had a real job with a real office and a door, I switched my desk out for a console table-the original desk was so big I couldn't reach the other side of it and I hated that.

The office manager pitched a huge fit because it just wasn't "right" but I told her that unless she wanted to order some female specific furniture for me, we'd make do with the console. I don't think they actually make female specific furniture, but it was one of my better off the cuff inventions.

Yes, I think green would look very nice. The desk is cute and seems to be quite functional. I see how you can put lots of things everywhere. Enjoy it!
