New Project

I bought a book on embroidered boxes and had to give it a try.    I love this medium, it's funky and not precise, and there are threads hanging down but what fun this was.  It took me weeks to do, as I would only do it when I had some time.  I used scraps of fabric that I had in the house, and gold thread and some old gold beads and just freeform sewing. Despite the little fiddly bits, this was a very soothing project.

Looks like a nice holder for a nieces birthday present doesn't it?

This is fabulous. I am dripping with envy for your talent with cloth and sewing. It looks ancient and ethnic and mysterious. What a luck niece to receive her present inside.

Oh fun, a 3-D art quilt piece. It looks like you really took your time and attended to detail here. I love the tassles at top. What did you use for legs/feet? Bottle caps covered in fabric perhaps? I can absouletely see this published in "Cloth Paper Scissors" Magazine!!! Yes, a perfect gift in itself. You mean it opens and you can put something inside? What a thrill to open that will be! Two gifts in one.

May I put a photo of this box on my art wall at home? I promise not to sell it. Just want it for inspiration! I"d love to try this 3-D style.

Thanks Deb, it is lovely isn't it? Suki and Lynn, I knew you'd like it - and Lynn of course you can put a photo of this box on your wall. Even better - buy the book and try some. I'm going to start another one, but have to find better metallic thread. The feet (which I'm not that happy with) are just fabric which has been stitched and then rolled and sewed closed, then sewed onto the base of the box. You can see that I was a bit off in my measurements on the feet!

Fern - you and I both! I want to open the top and climb in. I like to think of it as an "I Dream of Jeannie" inside, with a couch and pillows..and a hookah!

i want to live in that box with fern. :)

i have absolutely no talent in sewing. well, actually i don´t really try, but it takes me ages until i take needle and thread out of the drawer to sew a button back on.
i shocked my mom once when i repaired a torn doll´s skirt with the hot glue pistol. she almost got a heart attack and stitched the skirt herself.

I'm drooling over this Mim! I can't sew a stitch either, but if I could I'd run out and buy this book. You've inspired me!

I bought a quilted postcard for a friend. It's delightful! I know you could make fantastic ones. Look up this lady on Etsy. She goes by pamelaquilts.
