Weekend Bliss

After a work week in Washington, DC - I took the train to Newport News to meet friends who moved to that area three years ago.  It was a blissful weekend - busy but very satisfying.

Friday we went to Yorktown - and then went for a boat ride, saw hundreds (I'm not exaggerating) of dolphins; went swimming; ate out at a fish shack on the water and fell into bed. Saturday we went to Jamestown, and to Williamsburg, and had late night wine, and grill.   Writing it down like that it all seems boring and dull, but was really filled with mini adventures, wonderful meals, great conversation, and good tired feelings.

These friends bought a house on a marsh - perhaps bad due to bugs but just wonderful to look out over.  Of course I took no pictures - took the camera charger but no camera - so Dick will have to send me a few wonderful vista shots.

The best part of the weekend was the folk art museum in Williamsburg, and in Jamestown, seeing the original watercolors done by John White in the early 1600's.  His wonderful watercolors were the first sight for Europe of the flora and fauna of the Colonies.  They are amazing, we bought the book so that I can study them.  I'll copy some and post....

It was VERY good for me to get away for a few days.  Really the right thing to do.  I could use much more time away....

Sounds like a wonderful end to your DC visit. Glad you got to hang out with old friends and tour around a bit, eat good food. We all need these sorts of adventures.

I can hear and see the adventures and tastes hidden under the words.
Getting away is good, and coming home is too. No camera, just a battery charger. How funny is that?
Wonder what your unconscious was telling you there? Just LOOK.
ENJOY. I guess we don't HAVE TO capture every nuance on film/memory card. I am so guilty of that.
I see the marsh and felt the bugs too. LOL

MMMMM, fish, dolphins, friends. Bliss.

Mim, I am trying to learn to create the vacation state of mind at home-it's a work in progress. Tonight I am camping out on the sunporch with all the dogs-just because I can.
